Hailed as a parable for contemporary instances, Erasmus of Rotterdam is the biography of an excellent humanist who, while pressed for a confession of religion, acknowledged, “I love freedom, and that i won't and can't serve any party.” At no time does Zweig point out Hitler through identify, however it is clear that his biography of a guy who attempted to stay above the conflict, and who used to be torn to items through either Lutherans and Catholics, was once aimed to demonstrate the difficulty of a guy who refrains from activism and prefers to target his work.
